When it comes to designing bathrooms, there’s not much we haven’t seen! But even after over 20 years we are still surprised with how little thought some people give their bathroom design. In this blog we look at five common mistakes people make when renovating their bathroom.
Poor Layout
The biggest mistake people make when designing their own bathroom is the layout. This is especially the case with smaller bathroom design. From not leaving enough space between the sanitaryware to not allowing for the door clearing, we’ve seen it all. Without the right planning you could end up spending a lot of money on a bathroom you can’t use.
Mismeasurement
Whether it’s the size of your bath or the height of your shower, mismeasuring is a common mistake in bathroom design. Many people don’t consider the finer details until completion at which point its often too late.
Little or No Ventilation
The bathroom is the most humid room in the house, without the correct ventilation you could end up with damp and mould. This is likely to cause your family health problems, especially black mould which is a common consequence of poor ventilation.
Radiator Placement
Designing a small bathroom can be tricky, trying to find a place for all the sanitaryware. However, many people overlook the placement of the radiator. This requires forethought to ensure that your bathroom is heated properly without anyone getting burnt. Placing the radiator near to the toilet is a common mistake, only realised when you sit on the toilet and burn your legs.
Not Seeking Professional Advice
It can be tempting to take on the task of designing your bathroom yourself to save money. You know what you want, and you know how you want it to look. But unless you frequently install bathrooms, its likely you will make mistakes along the way. Such mistakes can have very expensive consequences, particularly with DIY plumbing attempts.
