When choosing your new bathroom floor tiles, it’s important to know what you are looking for. Here at Bathroom Studio Design, we have an abundance of knowledge built over twenty years of designing opulent bathrooms. Therefore, we know that creating a long-lasting luxury bathroom requires attention to detail. Details such as whether to use ceramic or porcelain tiles. In this blog we look at the difference between the two, along with the pros and cons for both options.
Ceramic Bathroom Tiles
The pros
Ceramic tiles are a popular choice, as they are cheaper, easier, and available in a wider choice of designs. Made from a red, white, or brown clay the tile is less dense and softer than a porcelain tile. Which makes them easier to cut and shape for fitting.
The cons
However, whilst all the above make ceramic tiles an appealing choice for many, you should also consider the cons. Ceramic tiles tend to absorb more water which is an issue in a wet room. They can also be prone to cracking in cold weather. Not an ideal finish to your new bathroom floor.
Porcelain Bathroom Tiles
The pros
Porcelain bathroom tiles are far more durable than their ceramic counterparts. Made from a specialised mix of white clay, sand and feldspar then fired in a high temperature kiln. This gives them a much harder and more dense finish which is ideal for high foot traffic areas. Furthermore, porcelain tiles are perfect for areas with high moisture content, such as bathrooms and wet rooms. Therefore, proving a more waterproof with a durable finish.
The cons
However, just like ceramic tiles, they come with downsides too. Porcelain tiles are often much more expensive and require expert fitting, especially when cutting. They also come in basic designs which means you are limited in choice for your bathroom floor tiles.
